Spiritual Helpers and Animistic Servants in Our Proximity

However much the earthly world appears to most people so complete that they cannot even imagine that anything further could be lacking in it, in reality there is very much that curtails all the true diversity and richness of the space of life here

It may be said that truly very much is lacking

The reason why all this is lacking to the present-day world of men is the wholly fettered natural co-operation with the other parts of the work of Creation

From there could flow strengthening and inspiration, which would in the end manifest themselves both in human society and in nature

Through this a blessed richness would be mediated to the Earth, such as in reality was always meant to be here

It is precisely that connection, ennobling for man, which reaches beyond the boundary, so strongly limiting today, between the earthly visible and the invisible world

The separation of mankind from the other parts of Creation was bound to bring a weakening of the high streams of inspirations which contain within them much that is new, of which the people of today have not even an inkling

And if the connection with the higher spheres is lacking, then naturally very much else is lacking here in the gross material world itself as well, which would make it more beneficent

Nature too has come to a standstill in its further development, which was to have been a co-operation between men and the supra-earthly planes

A great number of the most beautiful forms of life have thus remained in the fine spheres above the material universe

All this came about solely through the fault of mankind's tearing itself away from the Luminous planes

The condensing of the thoughts issuing from intellectual comprehension has closed all the ways to higher forms which were yet to come to Earth

For most people, moreover, the boundary of the material comprehension of the world is insurmountable in the disposition of their thinking

Materially limited people stand before this boundary as before an imaginary line beyond which, according to them, there is nothing more

They have not even for a moment an inkling of what narrowing of their own spiritual abilities manifests itself in this

Yet truly every man bears these abilities within him

They are, however, suppressed and stifled by the influence of the intellect with its earthbound comprehension

It then appears as if they had never been in man at all

This is because only the surpassing of the boundary of the gross material mentioned opens to the human spirit the possibilities for its unprecedented growth, and thereby also for the attainment of a wider and much fuller degree of life on Earth

Within the narrow boundaries of material comprehension, however, a state of higher perception of connections cannot come about

In the planes above gross matter, moreover, abilities can quickly come into play which do not rest in the brain equipment of man, but in his part of spiritual perceiving and experiencing

This opens the way to the connection with true life, which vibrates in a manifoldly higher richness above the matter of which the universe here is formed

Although, therefore, nature and the life of men seemingly appear as parts of life of full value, this world is immeasurably poor if the dimension of an animistic and spiritual kind, which inseparably belongs to it, is neglected

Without connectedness with the other parts of the work of Creation the earthly world is only filled to less than half

We live in a world that is but half, without being aware of it

Only the being radiated through by an active consonance with everything that is found above gross materiality proper can make the world of men of full value

But to the people of today this seems something superfluous, it appears to them as something that is not needed, although in every place of the human world one can observe serious rifts in wholeness, which in the end brings only damage and decline in everything that men form

It benefits the world of today not in the least to be torn away from all the helps which are of a higher kind and which ought to have been here from time immemorial

Because the earthly world is dependent upon the planes of the animistic and the spiritual mentioned, this brings as a result a great impoverishment precisely to the earthly world

Mankind is drowning in spiritual as well as animistic poverty

This has many serious consequences, which are now rapidly becoming visible

It is the reason why we find unrest and tension everywhere, for the true goal of the human spirit is today exchanged for secondary goals, inferior from the standpoint of human value

Nothing in this fact will be changed by the present comprehension of men, which in its narrowness is wholly torn away from the recognition of the original wealth that lies in the connection of all the planes of the work of Creation into one whole

All the powers of present-day mankind are directed only towards material accomplishment, although the material should always have been a natural complement to the real work of the spiritual inner being

If the spirit were fully applied in the right volition towards the Light, then all the wealth for which people today struggle harshly with nature, or among themselves, could be granted voluntarily and in a far greater measure than is the case today

The spiritual helpers and also the servants of Valhalla would bring it to men by ways which would appear even miraculously simple, yet at the same time immeasurably wise in their content of knowledge of the Laws of Creation and of all the finer planes co-operating therein

It would become a true possession for the inner being of man, not only in the sense of earthly fullness of value, but above all from the standpoint of comprehending the true meaning of man's existence in Creation

The greatest indictment therein is the fact that the attainment of this state is nothing so very difficult after all

On the contrary, it may be said that it is something of childlike ease

It is indeed so simple and easy that it creates mistrust in the intellectual comprehension of men, and in many it then even arouses strong opposition, for from their point of view everything great and rich is conditioned only by an increased exertion of the brain

With intellectual people the expectation of any success rests only in their increased effort of work of a thinking kind

Whatever greater thing is attained by materially limited people must, according to them, have arisen on the basis of the work of the intellectual brain

If, then, something significant is at some time attained by such a man as does not otherwise show the usual intellectuality, this is no reason for other people to reflect, but it is regarded as something strange, indeed suspicion of theft or fraudulent dealing is even voiced, and of much else besides which people associate with dishonest ways of attaining success otherwise than by dogged effort of thought

Such people simply do not believe in anything like the receiving of inspirations which a man could have obtained in sleep, or in a moment of sudden inner enlightenment

Anything of this kind is wholly alien to intellectual people

Yet it always arouses in them envy and hatred towards people who, from their point of view, come to something higher seemingly lightly and without effort

They do not know that it is precisely the simplest happening, which could have been their own as well, and that only they themselves, through their orientation towards matter, have stifled their own abilities of such a kind

They are not aware of how precisely by this they prove their being torn away from the higher planes of the work of Creation

By this they also prove that they are not capable of receiving the new, but that with the help of the intellect they only put together again and again what was once received earlier in inspirations

Therefore we can speak of the lesser half of that which could in reality be on Earth

Already here it could have been recognised down to the smallest connections how the animistic servants assemble the material particles under the constant inflow of the Aether, how it is possible, simply and plainly, to obtain from this inflow inexhaustible powers for all the activity of men on Earth

There would also already be here today the knowledge of how the smallest beings caring for the plants are able to transform the radiation of the sun's rays into the growth and forming of blossoms and fruits

That mysterious transformation which makes a butterfly out of the caterpillar enclosed in the chrysalis would be known down to the smallest degrees

Also that still uncomprehended kindling of life in the cell, which then itself becomes the mediator of further developing life

What is being described here has not the least connection with a further intellectual development of mankind, but precisely only and solely with the spiritual awakening and enlightenment which will come to the Earth through the liberation of the spirit in man

When this time comes upon Earth, then it will be something wholly self-evident that people will naturally ask after every further knowledge of the animistic servants, just as it will be something natural for them to meet daily with their spiritual helpers through inner attunement

All that which today appears strange and incomprehensible will become self-evident knowledge even for small children

There will come about an all-penetrating fulfilment of changes in the life of men

It will come through the effects of the happening mediated by the Ray of Parzival

In mankind's looking back it will be called the beneficent turning of life

People will smile incredulously when someone tells them to imagine that on Earth there was once, long ago, such a strange disposition of men that they did not turn to their spiritual helpers at all, and that the animistic servants were spoken of as phantoms which only dreamers and people sick in the brain beheld

It will be that time when all life on Earth will for the first time be permitted to bear the designation of being harmonious and whole

But even today all this can become a visible herald of the approaching happening

It can become a partly recognised naturalness through the endeavour of inwardly open people

It is therefore not to be a motionless waiting for changes, but it is even today to be a summons to active work of the spirit

Today too their spiritual helpers are everywhere around people

Almost no one, however, strives for connection with them for the purpose of his own ascent

Therefore we find here today a connection with parts of the work of Creation above gross matter which is not filled with earnest volition, but which is predominantly only the work of the fleeting interest of those who, in their excitement over the strangeness of alien happenings, are touched by spiritism and esotericism

This has created prejudice in many people, and so the majority take a wholly dismissive stand towards these subjects

Although the trends mentioned carry within them an effort towards a shift in development, they have no connection with the Truth, and thereby they lack power and in part also sufficient purity to be able to have connection with the blessing of God and thereby to become an influential counterweight to the materialistic majority

We therefore find here predominantly only disdain, mockery or also attacks on anything that does not support itself with all its limbs upon matter

Therefore no one approaches it with the necessary earnestness, although therein lies, through the intuitive perception of man, the way to connection with the places which until now remain forbidden to limited intellectual people

The uniting with those who are in the fine planes around us is a condition of the developmental stage of mankind

It is therefore not a matter of extraordinary gifts which ought to be regarded as an act of grace granted only to individuals

In a certain sense there is in every man the prerequisite for attaining receptivity for that which comes from the planes above matter

There is not the least thing exceptional in this, for that exceptionalness arose in it through the severing of the material frontal brain from the original abilities which dwell in the other parts of the cerebellum

The way to becoming aware of the connection with our finer environment, which is found in a helping kind of radiation, is for each one wholly unique and in a certain sense unrepeatable

There is here no uniform doctrine or pattern which ought to hold good for all people

It is therefore bound up with the highest effort in the inner being, which needs to find its own personal way to receptivity for impressions which can bring inspirations and help on the path through life

With every morning awakening the call for uniting with the impressions which are found in the finer sphere around him should begin to vibrate in man

The spiritual helpers, just as the servants of Valhalla, have no concept of space and time such as we earthly men perceive them

It is therefore not for a moment any difficulty for them to be near man when he calls for their drawing near, in granting him help, or for mediating inspiration

There are always several spiritual helpers for one man

Thus there is not only one helper near earthly man, but in their diversity there are always several of them, representing different degrees of maturity, for they complement one another in when and what help is needed by man

They draw near to help in such a way that through their kind and maturity it may be as beneficial as possible for the earthly path of the man whom they are accompanying at the given moment

The connection takes place through the uplifting loftiness of thoughts in man himself and also through the nobility of his addressing them at the moment when he longs to turn to them for counsel

Anger, malice and baseness dwelling in man close off the connection with the higher spiritual helpers and, according to the prevailing attunement, often make it impossible even for a long time

Therefore inner purity is the initial condition for helps drawing near to man

This is so evident that it is quite astonishing that people are not aware of it

It is the same with the animistic servants working around men

Their presence, although today it is not perceived in the least, constantly brings everything needful for men to be able to live on Earth at all

This concerns the human body as well as all the intermediate degrees of the planes between gross materiality and the spheres of the ethereal worlds

How very effective in all this the inner attunement of man is can easily be deduced if we observe the effects of the Laws working in materiality

It can be deduced, for example, from the states of water

Water is always the same in its composition, yet it has several states of aggregation, which always have their physical properties that do not permit them to enter with their effects anywhere other than where they belong

Thus precisely the gaseous form of steam may tend upwards, in contrast to the fluidity of water and the solidity of ice

The people of today are no longer even in the state of fluidity, but in their density they resemble motionless ice

With the power of the intellect they are indeed able to tear apart rocks and to form enormous systems of thought, which by their structure hold together social life, but they lack mobility and lightness

They have become rigid and cold, instead of keeping within them a living streaming and flowing with the rest of the world of nature

And most of all they have restricted the ability to separate themselves inwardly from matter and to rise high up towards heaven, whenever this proves to be inspiring and beneficent

The attunement in man is therefore much more important than people think today

Therein lies absolutely the whole setting of further development here on Earth

Only through the right harmonious attunement can the connection be formed which is still very much lacking here

The spiritual volition in man therefore needs to come alive to the highest mobility

Everything else is already prepared for it

Just above the matter of the universe here there is found, in the fullness of its helping effect, the great spiritual enlightenment

The time when the very long-lasting severance of earthly men from the helps from the Light will be healed is within sight

Through every single man who has already awakened in his inner being, help can be given towards ending the state of poverty which manifests itself in everything in the form of discontent and tension

The way out of all difficulties is in reality nearer than most people think today
